#100 / Quel est ce lieu ? Where are you ?

Hashima-island-Japan-NeoPlaces

Even if it does not feel like it, you’re on an island! You are in the ruins of a mining tiny city on Japan Hashima Island. And if you look at the slide show, the island will remind you the latest James Bond movie. Indeed, it is the island that inspired the writers of Skyfall to create the  villain’s lair.

And this island truly existed. It hosted a mining community of more than 5,000 people who operated there for about 100 years. It was abandoned in 1974 when Japan chose gas rather than coal as their main energy source. Go take a look if you visit the area of Nagasaki.
