Guess what. This five-star hotel is a former dissecting laboratory.
Originally built as a university dissecting laboratory in 1909, the building impresses with its majestic front on Mauritskade avenue, while extending into the park with three wings on the other side. Today, it has been transformed into a 5-star hotel with 88 rooms, called Pillows Grand Boutique Hotel Maurits at the Park.
The number of rooms has been deliberately kept low, in order to preserve the monumental spaces of the building. The heritage glazed brick walls and truss structures are balanced with soft and modern tones of the hotel’s interiors.
After turning prisons into high-end hotels, this new generation of building transformation keeps the thrill of the transgression.

Construit à l’origine comme laboratoire de dissection universitaire en 1909, le bâtiment impressionne par sa façade majestueuse sur l’avenue Mauritskade, et se prolonge dans le parc avec trois ailes de l’autre côté.
Aujourd’hui, il a été transformé en un hôtel 5 étoiles de 88 chambres, baptisé Pillows Grand Boutique Hotel Maurits at the Park.
Le nombre de pièces a été volontairement réduit, afin de préserver les espaces monumentaux du bâtiment. Les murs en briques vernissées et les structures charpentées d’époque sont équilibrés par les tons doux et modernes des intérieurs de l’hôtel.
Après avoir transformé les prisons en hôtels haut de gamme, cette nouvelle génération de transformation de bâtiments conserve le frisson de la transgression.
