Trollvegen est une station de sports d’hivers extrêmes. Un lieu pour fous de glisse, de vitesse et de risque. Sans doute ont-ils pensé à eux en concevant cet office du tourisme: une mise en abîme du lieu dans les vitres immenses, des bords tranchants et déchirant l’espace. Un lieu extrême pour une expérience extrême.

Trollvegen is a ski resort dedicated to extreme sports. A place loved by snow riders who want to enjoy risks, speed and slides. I am sure they thought about them when they created this visitors center: the way mountains reflect indefinitely in the large windows and the sharp edges of the whole building. An extreme place for extreme fans.

Depuis 1950, le métro de Stockholm vous transport sous terre – littéralement. Des roches apparentes, taillées, peintes, taggées … et parfois habitées de sculptures qui émergent des murs. 100 stations pour se sentir au centre de la terre.

Since 1950, the Stockholm metro has been literally an underground transport. The 100 stations show the earth’s rocks, either rough, or painted, or tagged… and even with classical sculptures who seem stucked inside the rocky walls. Creepy Halloween feeling.

Comme la photo ne l’exprime pas, je vous le dis tout de suite, vous regardez la chambre d’un hôtel économique ! Vue magnifique, couleurs engageantes, tout pour plaire, non ? Il faut néanmoins que vous adhériez à la vision design spartiate et colorielle que Matali Crasset imprime à chaque nouvel hôtel Hi. Celui-ci, à Nefta en Tunisie n’échappe pas à la règle. Autant en espace urbain, le visiteur pouvait se sentir en cohérence avec la ville, autant en plein désert, l’expérience semble inédite.

Since the image is misleading, let’s make things clear: you are here in the room of an economy hotel! Gorgeous views on the desert, colourful atmosphere, but very minimalist interior design as the slideshow will demonstrate. Each new Hi! hotel is an expression of Matali Crasset’s simple design approach. And if her style seems consistent in an urban environment, it seems a bit awkward in this Tunisian city.

On l’a beaucoup vu circuler sur internet, car c’est magnifique. Mais savez-vous ce que c’est ?

Eh bien, c’est un couvent. C’est la remise en état d’un ancien couvent que l’on rend ainsi à ses religieuses. Il y a quelques siècles, l’église catholique était innovante dans ses constructions et cela frappait ses fidèles. Si elle choisissait de renouer avec cette tradition, nous voterions pour !

We might have seen it already on the internet. But did you understand this is a convent ?

Well it was a convent in a very bad condition and with this amazing work it can now be used again by nuns. A few centuries from now, the Catholic church was known for its innovative and impressive architectures. If they chose to start again, we would be strongly in favour of all initiatives.

Un beau centre commercial, c’est rare. Celui-ci est plutôt réussi. Bien sûr, il ne révolutionne pas la structure de vente (un grand building, à étages, avec ascenseur et “foodcourt”) mais l’utilisation du blanc, du bois, de la pierre et des formes rondes lui donne un charme et un légèreté bien rares dans cet univers.

Finding a beautiful shopping mall is not a usual experience. Well, this one might be a possibility. Of course, it doesn’t modify the shopping mall’s logic (large building, floors and elevators, food court) but the way they use the white color, wood and stone as the main materials and round shapes give to the place a light charm.

Les hôtels sont bien connus pour être des lieux de plaisir. Le designer Antoine Peters a développé une version très contemporaine de cette idée en concevant une chambre pour l’hôtel Modez à Arnhem aux Pays-Bas. En recouvrant les surfaces de QR codes, la chambre est déjà étonnante, mais lorsque l’on sait que chaque QR code renvoit à une image sexy ou pornographique, la chambre des plaisirs devient soudain bien plus chaude, non ?

L’Hôtel Modez n’a qu’une chambre de plaisir. Les autres chambres sont toutes crées par un décorateur différent; elles sont toutes également étonnantes et intéressantes.

Hotels have always been a place for pleasure and sex. the designer Antoine Peters has created a truly contemporary version of this hotel usage: when every surface in the room is covered with QR codes, it is really impressive. But when you know that each code refers to a sexy, even pornographic image, the temperature rises immediately !

The Modez hotel, in Arnhem, in The Netherland, has only one room like this. But look at the other rooms, also very interesting in terms of design, even if they are less sexy.

Une église, une usine ? Un peu des deux, en fait. C’est une usine de ciment que Ricardo Bofill a entièrement reconstruite et réorganisée. Il y a créé son atelier, des appartements, des bureaux et même une galerie d’exposition. Tout en créant une atmosphère de parc espagnol.

A church, a factory ? A bit of both, in fact. This was a cement factory that Ricardo Bofill entirely reorganised and rebuilt internally. He actually uses one part as his studio, the rest being apartments, offices and an exhibition gallery. The park was also reorganized to create this southern park perception.
