Un nouveau restaurant à Paris qui choisit, lui aussi, de suivre la tendance des styles par étages. Autant les étages sont classiquement moderne, autant la salle du rez-de-chaussée est splendide, réinventant magnifiquement les fresques des brasseries parisiennes. L’artiste allemand Kat Menschik, a réalisé une fresque bucolique prégnante et mystérieuse qui donne instantanément au lieu une réalité forte.Serait-ce aussi le retour des paravents ?

A new restaurant in Paris has chosen to follow the trend of one floor/one style. And if the upper floors are quite classical, even if they are nicely done, the ground restaurant is gorgeous. With a gigantic painting, created by German artist Kat Menschik, it bring a new flair to the old tradition of parisian brasserie mural painting. Immediately impressive and attractive. Would this also mean that folding screens are back ? Let’s see in the future.

“Il faut garder un vin à la bonne température …” C’est sans doute parce que tout le monde associe la lumière à la chaleur que le design du caviste Mistral va faire sursauter les plus férus de vin. Pourtant, les LED permettent maintenant de dissocier les deux. Et permettent ainsi une mise en scène extraordinaire où les bouteilles semblent flotter de chaque côté du visiteur.

“You have to store wine at the right temperature…” This sentence is so true that you might be horrified with the bottle staging of the wine shop Mistral. This is because you associate light and heat. Yet, with the LED technology, it is now a very different subject. They allow to separate light and heat. And in this example, they allow the staging to be amazing, creating the illusion that bottles are floating around you.

Lieux ancestraux et modernité ne font pas toujours bon ménage car l’un l’emporte toujours sur l’autre. Pourtant, l’hôtel Mamilla à Jérusalem semble avoir trouvé le bon équilibre: le mise en valeur des pierres anciennes, si importantes dans la culture locale et l’épure d’un design contemporain affirmé, font bon ménage à l’intérieur des espaces publics, comme sur les terrasses de l’hôtel. Une envie irrésistible de redécouvrir l’histoire ?

There a little examples of a great mix between century-old places and bold contemporary architecture. Well, the Mamilla hotel in Jerusalem could be one of them. They seem to have balance very well the presence of old stones and stone walls, so important in the local culture, and the integration of pure and bold design elements. Another good reason to go and live the history in Israël.

Goldfinger serait-il passé par Guimaraes au Portugal ? Toujours est-il que le nouveau musée des Arts est entièrement doré. Le bâtiment, fait de plusieurs structures carrées, à différents niveaux, entièrement recouvert de tubes de cuivre doré, est imposant sans être lourd. Il invite à l’approche et au toucher. En contraste, l’intérieur est d’une épure parfaite, blanc pour les espaces d’exposition et noir pour les espaces interactifs (salles de projection par exemple). Une réussite.

This is not Goldfinger’s house, but it could have been. The new Guimaraes museum, in Portugal, is entirely covered with brass tubes that give this incredible golden colour. Structured with several different square buildings, each at a different height, it is imposing but not heavy. And you really feel an urge to move forward, to touch him. And the contrast with the inside is even more interesting as the choice has been made to keep the interior either white (for the exhibitions rooms) or black (for the interactive rooms), in the purest possible way. A great building.

L’hôtel Wanderlust, à Singapore, a une singularité intéressante: à chaque étage, un designer différent construit son univers. Ainsi, le rez-de-chaussée, tout en style industriel coloré, a été conçu par Asylum. Au premier étage, c’est le studio phunk qui a imaginé des chambres “Pantone”, chacune dans une couleur vive. Au deuxième étage, dp architects a opté pour le blanc, l’épure, avec un vrai grain de folie, quand même. Et au dernier étage, ainsi que sur la terrasse, c’est fFurious qui a choisi de redevenir enfant avec des chambres aux figurines étranges et aux plafonds travaillés. Chaque étage a ainsi une personnalité affirmée même si l’ensemble doit être quelque peu déroutant.

The Wanderlust hotel in Singapore must be an incredible experience as it has chosen to present a different atmosphere on each floor: the ground floor is in an industrial, colourful style, creation of Asylum. On the first floor, phunk studio proposes strong color rooms, called “Pantone rooms”. On the second floor, dp architects have chosen to balance the white pure atmosphere with some strikingly strange elements. And on the last floor, including the terrace, fFurious has imagined a trio back to childhood with action figures, and curious ceilings. Even if the complete hotel experience must be a bit awkward, with all those differences, it must be something worth trying.

Vous êtes dans la cathédrale de l’Eau crée cet été à Santiago du Chili. Une installation faite de tissu qui sous les rayons du soleil créait de l’eau par condensation. Un lieu où la fraicheur était parfaitement accentuée par la composition du lieu, l’alternance de l’ombre et de la lumière, et par ce blanc pur.

Any idea ?

You are in the Water Cathedral created this summer in Santiago in Chile. This installation mad with textiles cones creates water with the sun, through a purely natural condensation process. The place felt fresh and liquid, also thanks to the physical structure, the light and shade mix and the white color.

This must be an official, administrative building, no ? Yes, in a way. This is the Sports Complex of the Christiaan Huygens college campus in Eindhoven. Great “ribbon” idea and the other side, in front of the stadium, is even better.
