This is not a camping site or a store for vintage caravans, but simply a hostel in Bonn, Germany, created by Michael Schloesser. Fifteen caravans, two Airstream trailers and two train dormitories welcome young visitors for the night at very affordable rates. Set in a large warehouse, organized in a circle, like in a camping lot, with outdoor seating to enjoy, the caravans and the place allow guests to experience the very special humor. A symbol of the revival of economic hotels that greatly move the lines of the global hospitality at the moment.

Non, non, ce n’est pas un camping, ni un magasin de caravanes vintage, mais tout simplement une auberge de jeunesse à Bonn en Allemagne, crée par Michael Schloesser. Une quinzaine de caravane, deux Airstream et deux wagon-dortoirs accueillent les jeunes gens pour la nuit à des tarifs très abordables. Installés dans un grand entrepôt, organisés en cercle, comme dans un camping, avec des sièges à l’extérieur pour en profiter, les caravanes et le lieu proposent une expérience à l’humour très décalé. Un symbole du renouveau des hôtels économiques qui font grandement bouger les lignes de l’hôtellerie mondiale en ce moment.

Xian est l’ancienne capitale de Chine et son dernier hôtel de luxe se devait donc d’être un vrai palais. Et c’est ce que le Westin de Xi’an a réalisé: un extérieur digne de la cité interdite de Pékin et un intérieur aux espaces évoquant de façon moderne les patios à la chinoise. Une réalisation impressionnante.

Xian is China’s ancient capital city and its latest luxury hotel had to be a palace. And the Westin Xi’an is exactly that: a building in a shape reminding the Forbidden City in Beijing and interior spaces evoking Chinese patios in a modern way. An impressive achievement.

Eh bien, n’est-ce pas évident? Vous êtes dans une prison. Mais, cette prison a été récemment transformée en un magnifique hôtel de luxe . La transformation des bâtiments publics, et en particulier des prisons, en hôtels est une aventure architecturale récente. Mais celle-ci est particulièrement bien faite, mettant en valeur les éléments clefs des prison (grilles, portes, structure), tout en offrant un confort haut de gamme et une pointe d’ironie, avec des photos géantes de prisonniers dans les suites

Well, obvious isn’t it ? In a prison. You’re right. Yet, this prison has been turned into a gorgeous luxury hotel. Turning public buildings, and especially prisons into hotel is a recent adventure. But this one is particularly well done, keeping the jail icons (stairs, grids, doors) while providing upscale comfort and a touch of irony, with giant pictures of prisoners in suites.

La lumière modèle l’espace, tout le monde le sait. Dans cet hôtel, l’architecte a pensé la lumière dans chaque espace, en la faisant toucher les plafonds, les sols, les murs, de plein de façon différentes : des points, des traits, des ombres, des reflections … Un jeu superbe qui illumine un design très sobre.

It is commonly said that using light models any space. In this hotel, the architect has created a different lightning in each space, making sure it touches the ceilings, the floors, the walls, in a lot of different ways: dots, lines, shadows, reflections … A superb light show which illuminates a very sober design.
