Vous êtes sous la neige dans l’île d’Hokkaido au Japon où l’architecte Kengo Kuma a présenté une maison experience sur le thème de l’intégration de la maison et de l’environnement, dans des conditions extrêmes (le projet “Même”). Au-delà de la beauté immédiate du lieu, la maison est extrêmement innovante : La structure extérieure de la maison est faite d’une membrane double, tendue sur une simple structure de bois, qui isole naturellement l’intérieur tout en permettant à la lumière d’entrer. La ventilation et l’air conditionné sont directement intégrés entre les deux membranes. La maison est chauffée en géothermie. N’est-ce pas magnifique quand innovation, respect de l’environnement et beauté vont ensemble ?
You are in the Hokkaïdo island in Japan where the architect Kengo Kuma has presented an experimental house, the “Même” project. The house is of course obviously beautiful, but it is also very innovative: it uses a two-layer permeable membrane, stretched over a wooden frame as material for the walls and cover, which provides insulation and natural lighting inside the housing. The ventilation and air conditioning installations are within this membrane. The house uses geothermal heating system.

Dernière création de Zaha Hadid, le centre Galaxy Soho de Pékin est typique des constructions urbaines asiatiques car il mélange des activités différentes: un espace commercial sur les trois premiers étages, un espace entreprises sur les 20 étages suivants et enfin un espace restauration/ entertainment sur les trois derniers étages, pour profiter de la vue. Mais c’est la taille du complexe qui frappe au-delà de la qualité architecturale car c’est le regroupement de 5 bâtiments distincts en un seul lieu.
Last achievement of Zaha Hadid, the Beijing Galaxy Soho center is in line with asian urban constructions as it mixes very different activities, vertically : the first three levels are dedicated to retail and shopping areas, the next 20 levels will be offices and the last three levels are allocated to bars, restaurant, entertainment, to enjoy one of the best Beijing view. But what is truly amazing is the size of the complex as it brings together, with a great architectural flair, 5 distinct buildings.

En fait, vous êtes au Musée! Eh si. Je vous présente le Museum of Everything, crée par James Brett pour une tournée en Russie. Depuis trois ans, le Musée se réinvente en fonction de son lieu d’exposition et après Londres, ils ont décidé d’envahir la Russie. Et la décision de mêler l’art à un container rouge sur roues de poids lourds a de quoi surprendre et attirer. N’est-ce pas le propre de l’art ?
You are in a Museum. Yes you are. Please enter the Museum of Everything, specially created by James Brett for a Russia exhibition. For the last three years, the Museum has been presented contemporary art, in a disruptive way, all across London. And they have now decided to invade Russia, with a great 4-wheels red container, full of art. Disruptive, intriguing and new, as art should be.

Si les agences de publicité vendent leur créativité aussi par le décor de leur locaux, il est plus rare que les société industrielles aient la même démarche pour leur siège social. Cette frilosité habituelle rends le travail innovant d’architecture d’intérieur réalisé sur le siège de KHGear, à Zhuhai en Chine encore plus intéressant. Un choix de couleurs, de formes et d’imagerie qui véhicule à la fois la maîtrise et le sérieux, le tout dans un style très contemporain. Un bel exemple.
It is so usual to see headquarters done by designers only in advertising or consultancy companies that we are always surprised when it is an industrial company that achieves a great designed headquarter. And it is the case for the KH Headquarters, created last year in Zhuhai, China. Contemporary design approach manages to convey quite strongly the ideas of mastered production, security and competency. Well done.

Eh bien, c’est un couvent. C’est la remise en état d’un ancien couvent que l’on rend ainsi à ses religieuses. Il y a quelques siècles, l’église catholique était innovante dans ses constructions et cela frappait ses fidèles. Si elle choisissait de renouer avec cette tradition, nous voterions pour !
We might have seen it already on the internet. But did you understand this is a convent ?
Well it was a convent in a very bad condition and with this amazing work it can now be used again by nuns. A few centuries from now, the Catholic church was known for its innovative and impressive architectures. If they chose to start again, we would be strongly in favour of all initiatives.

Une église, une usine ? Un peu des deux, en fait. C’est une usine de ciment que Ricardo Bofill a entièrement reconstruite et réorganisée. Il y a créé son atelier, des appartements, des bureaux et même une galerie d’exposition. Tout en créant une atmosphère de parc espagnol.
A church, a factory ? A bit of both, in fact. This was a cement factory that Ricardo Bofill entirely reorganised and rebuilt internally. He actually uses one part as his studio, the rest being apartments, offices and an exhibition gallery. The park was also reorganized to create this southern park perception.

Goldfinger serait-il passé par Guimaraes au Portugal ? Toujours est-il que le nouveau musée des Arts est entièrement doré. Le bâtiment, fait de plusieurs structures carrées, à différents niveaux, entièrement recouvert de tubes de cuivre doré, est imposant sans être lourd. Il invite à l’approche et au toucher. En contraste, l’intérieur est d’une épure parfaite, blanc pour les espaces d’exposition et noir pour les espaces interactifs (salles de projection par exemple). Une réussite.
This is not Goldfinger’s house, but it could have been. The new Guimaraes museum, in Portugal, is entirely covered with brass tubes that give this incredible golden colour. Structured with several different square buildings, each at a different height, it is imposing but not heavy. And you really feel an urge to move forward, to touch him. And the contrast with the inside is even more interesting as the choice has been made to keep the interior either white (for the exhibitions rooms) or black (for the interactive rooms), in the purest possible way. A great building.
