Despite its cross shape, this place is not design church. It is an unattended Railway Station, in Holland. This station is part of a global project called Prettig Wachten (waiting comfortably) handled by ProRail, who handles railway stations management. According to needs, the structure can integrate a human presence (or not), a coffee or shop facility (or not) … But it surely provides a reassuring, comfortable waiting place for travellers. A perfect blend of functionality, modularity and aesthetics.
Malgré une forme en croix, ce lieu n’est pas une église. Il s’agit d’une station de chemin de fer en Hollande. Cette station fait partie d’un projet global appelé Prettig Wachten (attendre confortablement) mené par ProRail, en charge de la gestion des stations de chemin de fer. Selon les besoins, la structure peut intégrer une présence humaine (ou pas), un café ou un magasin (ou pas) … Il fournit en tous cas un endroit rassurant, à l’abri des intempéries, confortable aux voyageurs en attente. Un mélange parfait de fonctionnalité, de modularité et d’esthétique.

Amazingly, this is a perfectly blended mix of a 800 years old monastery and a 2013’s performance center. This historical place was abandoned by monks a long time ago, and has been successively turned into a hospital, a museum… Today’s change is really well done and beautiful. Using the black colour to introduce all the modernity required. Follow the black pavement and discover the stunning theatre room in the pictures.
Étonnamment, ceci est le mélange parfait d’un monastère vieux de 800 ans et d’un centre de performance du 21ème siècle. Ce lieu historique a été abandonné par les moines il y a longtemps, et a été transformé successivement en un hôpital, un musée … Le changement d’aujourd’hui est parfaitement réalisé, et très beau. L’utilisation de la couleur noire pour présenter toute la modernité de l’approche est une trouvaille pertinente. Suivez donc le sol noir pour découvrir la salle de théâtre magnifique dans le diaporama.

An Italian Winery in Bargino has chosen to insert itself right inside a hill where it is almost invisible to the eye. In the same time, it allows plenty of space for working areas, preserves land for the growth of vines and provides amazing tasting rooms with gorgeous views. A complete success. Dans notre acceptation progressive d’être une partie de la nature, une nouvelle tendance architecturale se dessine: Après avoir introduit la nature dans nos espaces de vie, avec des idées telles que des murs végétaux et les structures crées autour des arbres pour les garder à l’intérieur de nos maisons, il s’agit maintenant de s’insérer dans la nature.
S’insérer dans la nature permet évidemment de mieux observer la nature, de faire corps avec elle. Un bel exemple est cette superbe plateforme “immergée” qui permet d’observer la nature sur le lac de Vocklabruck en Autriche.

La mosaïque d’images ci-dessus montre le choix courageux d’un chais italien qui a choisi de s’insérer à l’intérieur même d’une colline où il est presque invisible à l’oeil. Ce choix permet des espaces intérieurs immenses pour les zones de travail, permet de conserver des terres pour la culture de la vigne et propose des salles de dégustations parfaites aux vues magnifiques. Une réussite totale.

The transfer of design codes from one universe to another is usually a clever way to attract attention on a new place or a new brand. Pierre Hermé, appropriating the decoration and design codes of jewelery shops to sell macaroons, has been a very good example.
Here is another, quite bold, because this time jewelry shop codes are used to sell weapons: brocades, marble, sophisticated lights, displays … each jewelry codes work wonders to magnify the weapons and the shop. This design code translation feels quite relevant and well done.
Transférer les codes d’un type de lieu vers un autre pour lui donner de la personnalité est une manière habile d’attirer l’attention sur soi. Pierre Hermé, en s’appropriant les codes des bijouteries pour vendre des macarons, en a été un bel exemple.
En voici un autre, assez original car cette fois-ci, c’est pour vendre des armes que les codes de la joaillerie sont choisis: brocards, marbres, lumières sophistiquées, présentoirs… tous les codes des bijoux fonctionnent à merveille pour magnifier ces armes. Une translation d’univers de lieu assez pertinente et bien réalisée.

Surveiller les bords de la rivière la nuit comme un hibou … ou dans un hibou. Car ces cabanes en bois au bord de la Garonne vous transforment un peu en oiseau de nuit. Dans les chambres, derrière les grands hublots des yeux, vous pourrez presque vous sentir un prédateur. Une expérience en abîme.

This cloud was created by Canadian artists Caitlind rc Brown and Wayne Garrett for a Chicago bar for the Nuit Blanche exhibition. This incredible lighting creates undoubtedly a unique feeling.

A la Nouvelle-Orléans, c’est une ancienne station-service qui vient d’être transformée en lieu événementiel à louer. Toutes les icônes de l’ancien lieu sont là et créent une atmosphère très “Grease” à cet endroit bien tentant.

In New Orleans, an old gas station has been transformed into a place to rent. All icons from the old place are there and create a very “Grease” and very tempting atmosphere.

Cette version sophistiquée de la maison sur le sable fait très envie en ces temps de météo trébuchante. Il y a la plage, le bois flotté, le blanc et le bleu .. tout y est, et pourtant, c’est le penthouse d’un grand immeuble avec appartements et centre commercial. L’illusion est parfaite.
This sophisticated version of the beach house is very attractive in these times of stumbling weather. The beach is there, the driftwood, the white and the blue .. everything is there, and yet this is the penthouse of a large building with apartments and shopping center. A perfect illusion.

Quand L’Oréal décide de relancer une maque ancienne, ils achètent un magasin Rue St Honoré! La première boutique de Roger & Gallet exprime tout à fait l’univers actuel, un peu neutre, de la marque rénovée. Mais cela reste encore bien loin des magnifiques espaces créés par Penhaligon‘s à Londres ou même Aesop à Paris. Une première marche, mais un long escalier encore à réaliser.
When L’Oréal decides to revive an old brand, they buy a place in Rue St Honoré! The first shop of Roger & Gallet expresses perfectly the current neutral identity of this renewed brand. But this is still quite far from beautiful spaces created by Penhaligon‘s in London or even Aesop in Paris. A first step for this brand, but still a long staircase to climb.
