Paris est connu pour la petite taille de ses appartements. Dans celui-ci, c’est grâce à l’emploi de la couleur que la surface minuscule devient habitable et structuré. Entièrement blanc, ouvert sur l’extérieur, c’est une lumière jaune qui délimité, à la demande, la partie salle de bains. Et cela change tout dans la perception de ce micro-loft.
Paris is known for its tiny apartments. In this one, thanks to the use of color, the space becomes homey and structured. All painted white and open to the outside thanks to large windows, it is the actionable yellow light at the end of the room defining the bathroom area, that makes the difference. Turn it on and it changes everything in the perception of micro-loft.

Qui a dit que l’industriel et la nature faisaient mauvais ménage ? Pourtant pris dans leur aspect le plus brut, ils se marient très bien, comme le montre ce kiosque de plage à Torquay, en Australie.
Les plaques d’acier qui le composent ont servi à protéger des bâtiments pendant les dernières inondations et leur aspect brut, légèrement rouillé, a été gardé tel quel pour la création des murs de ce kiosque. Ce lieu fourni aux baigneurs et aux surfeurs, du café de haute qualité, des vestiaires et des toilettes. Un recyclage très réussi.
Who said industrial and nature did not fit? If you consider them in their most basic form, they go very well together, as this beach kiosk in Torquay, Australia, clearly demonstrate.
The steel plates chosen to build the kiosk were previously used to protect buildings during the recent Victoria floods and their gross appearance, slightly rusty, was kept unchanged for the creation of the walls of the booth. This place provided bathers and surfers, high quality coffee, changing rooms and toilets. A very successful recycling.

Etonnant, non ? Et l’intérieur l’est encore plus (cliquez sur les photos du diaporama pour les voir en grand). Ceci est une caserne de pompiers. Aménagée au sein de cavernes dans la montagne, elle mêle la modernité de sa façade et de son choix coloriel à la rusticité de ses parois de pierre. Impressionnante.
Amazing, isn’t it? And the interior is even more (click on the slide show to see larger pictures). This is a fire station. Fitted in caves in the mountains, it combines the modernity of its facade and its bold dark colours with the hardiness of its stone walls. Impressive.

Ceci n’est pas une ferme couverte de verre, mais une ferme imprimée sur un espace en verre. Pour rendre hommage à l’histoire de la région, le village de Schijndel aux Pays-Bas a décidé de bâtir un lieu d’évocation des fermes traditionnelles. L’architecte a imprimé une ferme sur une grande enveloppe de verre, qui sert au village de lieu d’exposition, de restauration et de réunion. Imprimé à l’extérieur comme à l’intérieur, le bâtiment est beaucoup plus grand qu’une ferme classique, donnant à chacun l’impression de retrouver sa taille d’enfant. Une magnifique idée, très bien réalisée.
This is not a glass-covered farm, but a farm printed on glass. To honor the history of the region, the village of Schijndel in the Netherlands has decided to build a place evocative of traditional farms. The architect firm printed on a large glass envelope, creating a space which serves different roles (venue, restaurant area and meeting facilities). Printed on the outside as on the inside, the building is much larger than a conventional farm, giving everyone the impression of being a child size again. A wonderful idea, very well crafted.

You’re not in a city at war. You’re not on a movie set. You’re not in a dead city. You ‘re in all of those places together.
You are in the French Army training city dedicated to urban war: Jeoffrecourt. Amazing how the military think that urbanity, city mastering is about buildings and structures. Urban life is exactly the opposite.

Recycler, c’est toujours réinventer. Recycler, c’est aussi choisir ce que l’on garde et ce que l’on jette. Et transformer des écuries en maison, c’est un recyclage assez délicat.
Ici, l’architecte a gardé tout ce qu’il fallait des anciennes écuries (les box, les portes des différents espaces, et la perception d’une enfilade). Et leur interprétation dans ce blanc immaculé crée une maison contemporaine originale et apaisante.
Recycling of course means reinventing. But also choosing. Choosing what we keep and what we throw away. And transforming those stables into a house was a rather delicate recycling.
In this transformation, the architect has kept all icons of the old stables (the box, the doors between the different spaces, and the perception of a long house). And their interpretation through this pure white creates an original and soothing contemporary home.

Vivre sous terre volontairement ne peut être qu’une recherche de protection ou dans le cas de cette “Maison Terre” une quête de plénitude et de contemplation. Et son ensevelissement est également fort propice à l’observation des étoiles. Un lieu enfoui, tournée vers le ciel, un paradoxe.
Living underground can only be a voluntarily act, to seek for protection or in the case of this “Earth House” in search for wholeness and contemplation. Or maybe, only to star-gaze. An underground place, facing the sky, almost a paradox.
